VLORA, Feb. 6 – Defense Minister Arben Imami last weekend checked the work made at the Pasha Liman ship building base where Albania is constructing four military ships assisted from the Netherlands.
Together with Damen Dutch company they are building two ships similar to Iliria one, a 42 meter long one that will guard the Albanian territorial waters. They will be 7. 01 meter wide, to be under water up to 2.5 meters, using two Caterpillar engines that takes them up to 26 knots speed. They will have a capacity of up to 30 persons.
They are planned to be completed this year.
Albania has already bought the Iliria in the Netherlands with 7.2 million euros while the ones built here will be much cheaper at 1.2 million euros, also securing the maintenance base.
Some 85 persons are employed at the base.
Netherlands has supplied a grant that covers 35 percent of the total cost.
The Pasha Liman base also shelters three submarines Albania inherited from the previous communist regime. One of them will be used by the Tourism Ministry as an underwater museum.
