TIRANA. Sept. 19 – The Council of Europe has removed Albania from the list of countries it regularly investigates to see how authorities are fighting money laundering.
The move is good news for Albania as it shows authorities have met the needed proficiency in fighting this type of crime.
The decision was taken after the Council of Europe found out that Albania had good enough officials and procedures in preventing money laundering and terrorism financing, and Tirana had fulfilled the international obligations in preventing money laundering.
Another evaluation for the country will be conducted in 2017.
The MONEVAL commission was founded in 1997 and checks governments on how they fight money laundering and terrorism funding.
