TIRANA, May 5 – Albania held the first two meetings of the European Union-Albania subcommittees in Brussels to discuss economic and financial issues and the domestic market.
They were the first meetings after the country formally applied for the start of the candidate status and also since the Stabilization and Association Agreement came into force on April 1st.
The Albanian authorities reported their fulfillment of their obligations based on the recommendations of the European Commission’s annual report.
Brussels was pleased with the country’s results of improving the business climate and the privatization process.
The main topics discussed were economic development and prospects, inflation and monetary policy, current account balance, remittances, fiscal development and prospects, relations with the international financial institutions, restructuring of the public companies, especially that of KESH, the energy corporation, privatization of big companies, small and medium-size enterprises and so on.
