TIRANA, Sept 15 – Albania is expecting to conclude a 1 billion euro deal, one of the largest in the Balkan country’s history, in the coming weeks with Austrian utility EVN to build hydroelectric power stations, according to Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
In an interview with Reuters last week, Berisha said the deal was a sign of growing foreign investment.
EVN won a tender to build hydroelectric power stations in January, and officials at the time said the investment would require 900 million Euros. Berisha gave a round figure for the deal of one billion Euros for four plants.
“There are negotiations now on hydropower plants, contracts which go up to, a single one (contract), one billion Euros,” Berisha said. “They will be soon finalized, but negotiations are tough.”
