WORCESTER, Sep. 20 – A company that’s been making homemade candy in the U.S. city of Worcester for nearly half a century is closing up shop. William Prifti of Prifti’s Homemade Candies tells The Telegram & Gazette, the city’s local newspaper, that at age 86 the work has become too much for him, and he couldn’t find anyone to take over the business he started in 1965.
He’s now legally blind and relies on touch for some of his work. He says he tried to find a buyer, even offering to sell to a competitor, but candy making is a seven-day a week job and no one wants to take on that kind of commitment.
Prifti, originally from Albania, learned to make his chocolate and candy treats in Turkey.
