TIRANA, August 12؁lbania is attracting an increasing number of expatriates due to its climate and cheap cost of living, claims the publisher of Global Property Guide.
Matthew Montagu-Pollock states that Albania is recovering from being under communist rule and the resulting instability and is now catching up with the rest of Europe in terms of quality of life.
According to Mr Montagu-Pollock, most expatriates chose to move to a sunnier country and Albania is attractive because it is sunny.
“Everywhere, people prefer to live in warm, coastal areas rather than in cold, rainy inland locations. Albania is sunny, it is on the coast of mainland Europe, it is beautiful, and it is still cheap,” he said.
Mr Montagu argues that buying a property in Albania would be a wise investment as the International Monetary Fund predicts that Albania will experience the highest economic growth in the Balkans region this year after Montenegro.
Figures from the Institute for Public Policy Research, published on the BBC website in December 2006, estimated that 190 British citizens lived in Albania in 2006 alone.
