TIRANA, Feb. 27 – Gezim Myshketa is the new Albanian star on the international opera stage. The 32-year-old baritone from Durres received critical acclaim for his starring role as Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia Di Lammermoor in the Marseille Opera Gouse in early February 2014 with the French press describing him as the real surprise of the production.
“Enrico’s role was very demanding and the reaction of the public and French critics made me enthusiastic,” said Myshketa.
The success of the Albanian baritone makes him a new ambassador of Albanian opera after internationally renowned Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu and sopranos Inva Mula and Ermonela Jaho.
Young Albanian baritone, Gezim Myshketa is one of the most promising artists of his generation. After his debut as Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, he won the As.Li.Co. competition in 2006, making his role debut as Leporello in Don Giovanni, and the “Francesco Paolo Tosti” Competition in Ortona in 2008. Interesting collaborations have followed with prestigious theaters and festivals, such as: Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Palm Beach Opera, Abao Olbe in Bilbao, Op곡 de Montpellier, Filarmonico in Verona, Verdi in Trieste, Regio in Parma, Withsun Festival in Salzburg and Macerata Opera Festival. Mr. Myshketa added important roles to his repertoire: Rolando in La Battaglia di Legnano at the Festival Verdi in Parma and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Treviso and Ferrara, he also lately starred in Cl갰atre at the Salzburg Festival; Le Convenienze e inconvenienze teatrali (Biscroma) and I Pazzi per Progetto (Venanzio) in Zurich, Paolo Carignani conducting; Al졐ascha von Janina in Tirana, L’Elisir d’Amore at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona.
