MILAN, Dec. 1 – A week of events dedicated to Albanian history, tourism and culture was held in Italy’s Milan from November 27 to December 3 to commemorate the first waves of Albanian immigrants to Italy in 1990, when the country’s 45-year communist regime collapsed.
The events opened on November 27, one day before Albania celebrated its 98 anniversary of Independence. Several art exhibitions, meetings with representatives of Italian and Albanian officials were held during the event called “Albania- Europe’s last secret,” Albanian immigrants in Italy said in their biggest portal.
The Albanian cinema was also present at the event with the “Slogans” movie directed by Gjergj Xhuvani. A photo exhibition by Cristiana Schiopu on Albanian tourism and some pictures by the early 20th century Marubi collection in the Albanian city of Shkodra were held as part of the event organized by llyricum, New Generation Era, ACLI.
An estimated more than 400,000 Albanians live and work in Italy.
