TIRANA, Sep 29lbania’s healthcare system ranked 30th out of 33 European health care systems and just ahead of Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria, according to the Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI) published by Health Consumer Powerhouse.
Albania was included in the survey for the first time, at the request of the Albanian Ministry of Health.
According to the report, the country does have very limited healthcare resources but avoids finishing last, chiefly due to a very strong performance in terms of access, with virtually no waiting time for patients.
In this category, Albania ranked the same as Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.
The Netherlands ranked first in the 2009 Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI), for the second year in a row – the first time this happens since the EHCI started in 2005 – and with an outstanding margin.
