TIRANA, June 15 – The Council of Europe’s Euroimages Fund has approved a fund to support the filming of an Albanian film project, the National Cinematography Centre says. The decision was made in Helsinki last week when the Board of Management for the Council of Europe’s Eurimages Fund agreed to support the co-production of 19 feature films for a total amount of 5 million Euros. The “Agon” film project directed by Albanian Robert Budini will be a coproduction with Greece, France and Romania.
This is the second film project Euroimages is financially supporting for Albania after the Amnesty feature film, which represented Albania in this year’s Berlinale film festival.
Albania has been a member of Euroimages since January 2009. It is represented by the Albanian National Cinematography Centre (ANCC). Founded in 1997, the ANCC supports the development, production and distribution of films which have a potential to achieve international recognition, thereby enhancing the cultural identity of the local film productions and improving the economic viability of its cinematography. Since 1997, around 167 different projects – 37 feature-length films, 20 short feature films, 63 documentaries, 39 animated films, and eight film festivals – have been backed by ANCC. The main mandate remains the development of new cinema of artistic value.
