TIRANA, Nov. 20 – A series of seven CDs featuring Albanian music classics has been inaugurated in Tirana by UK-based Albanian internationally renowned conductor Eno Ko诮
“This unique compilation prepared by Dr. Eno Ko诠who is the conductor of all musical parts in the compilation features the values of musical creativity and performance by the symphonic orchestra of the Albanian public broadcaster RTSH through the reality of the importance of Albanian music and the role of music as a vector in education through art,” said musicologist Vasil Tole at a launch ceremony held at the Academy of Science in Tirana.
“The first reality is related to the importance of Albanian music as creation and performance which enables us to understand the Albanian music as a whole, as an artistic reality beginning from its roots in the late 19th century, including the whole 20th century as a period of the establishment of the Albanian national music school in Albania and Kosovo,” he adds. Eno Ko诬 who has launched most of the CDs with his own funds says the compilation introduces Albanian classics who were unknown or not recommended such as early 20th century composer Martin Gjoka.
Leeds-based Albanian conductor has made numerous recordings of Albanian music, instrumental and vocal and five CDs featuring Albanian Music Classics (vocal and orchestral) were released from 2005 up to 2011.
Eno Ko诠was born in Tirana, the capital of Albania, into a musical family. His father was a baritone and his mother a prominent soprano with an international reputation.
Eno Ko诠now lives in Leeds, and conducts throughout Britain. He has been the principal conductor of the orchestra of the School of Music at the University of Leeds for 19 years, directing many major works including recordings of music by V. Williams, Tippett and Philip Wilby.
