TIRANA, July 5 – There seems to be no better place for Albanians to place their bets on than treasury bills, which with an interest rate of 7.9 percent, a bit higher than the last report, outperform interest rates offered by banks.
In the last auction of Albanian Treasury Bills held last week the rate of interest for 12 month maturity reached 7.9 percent.
Because of the high rate of interest, there have been more than 2.11 billion leks worth in bonds issued in a very short time.
For a long time, banks themselves preferred to invest their abundant liquidity in treasury bills, at a time when credit risk was present increased risk. This brought an increase in the price of these treasury bill as demand grew.
Bonds with a lower maturity time on them have had more stable interest rates. Bonds with maturity of 3 months, at the latest auction recorded a level of 5.8 percent.
