TIRANA, Jan. 7 – Albania’s traditional music was for the first time featured in the New Year concert of the Vienna Philharmonic with a special performance by internationally renowned Albanian violinist Shkelzen Doli.
Doli, who was born in Albania and raised in Kosova, masterfully performed melodies based on the traditional Albanian folk music, put together in a four-minute video played during the program’s intermission.
“I have always been fond of exploring Albanian music. I was happy I was given the chance to also perform Albanian music in the New Year concert and introduce its beautiful motifs to the world,” Doli told reporters.
The famous concert is traditionally performed every year on the January 1 and is the world’s most popular show of the classical music.
Shkelzen Doli has been the second violin in Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra since 2009.
By taking part in various Philharmonic chamber music ensembles, he has successfully and fully established himself in Vienna’s musical life. Solo and ensemble tours have taken him to numerous European countries and to North America, Africa, Israel and Japan. Just recently he has become a founding member of the newly formed chamber music ensemble, “The Philharmonics.”
