TIRANA, Aug. 1 – Albania will face Switzerland, Norway, Cyprus, Slovenia and Iceland in the qualifying rounds Group E for the 2014 FIFA World Cup which are set to begin in September next year.
The draw was held in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
It seems as a very tough group for Albania.
Albania’s coach Josip Kuze said that, “if we make a reflection of our road until now and what is expecting us in the future there is a chance we may be successful. True Switzerland and Norway are teams with a strong play. Their results show the level of football in those countries has increased significantly and they have serious expectations.”
He was of the same opinion on Slovenia, adding they would closely and attentively follow and be courageous in their contest.
Speaking after the draw, assistant coach of the Swiss national team Michel Pont described the draw as “relatively kind”.
“If we have a full team, if we continue to drive the emergence of the new generation of players, teams like Norway and Slovenia, which is at about the same level as Norway, should be within reach. It’s up to us,” Pont told Swiss radio.
Iceland has never managed to qualify for a world or European cup finals נdespite the fact that its women’s team is currently among the best in Europe.
The Norwegian national football team considers the as giving the side a very good chance of reaching the tournament. Landslaget has had a fantastic form over the past year. Landslaget’s manager, Egil “Drillo” Olsen, was nevertheless cautious about the draw, stating in a press release that “it could definitely have been worse” but that his side was still “unlucky with getting Cyprus and Iceland from the fifth and sixth seeds.” Nonetheless, he was clear that Norway “should absolutely finish among the best two teams.” Drillo’s assistant, Ola By Rise, stated his disappointing with Iceland by describing the country as an “annoying little brother that likes to spoil the bigger brother’s plans” and a team that has been tough to play against in other recent qualifying competitions. The head of the Norwegian Football Association, Nils Johan Semb, also felt Norway had received a “very good” draw that he was “very satisfied” with, although he pointed to Switzerland as one of the best teams Norway could have been drawn against among the third seeds.
