AmCham chooses new president, board members

The new president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania for the next two years will be Robert Wood, an AMC representative.

TIRANA, March 1 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania has elected a new president and other key leadership officials at the chamber’s annual general assembly.
The chamber’s president for the next two years will be Robert Wood, an AMC representative who had already been a member of the AmCham Board of Directors, the chamber said in a statement on its Web site.
Stephen Strauss of Tirana Business Park was elected AmCham Treasurer, while Avni Ponari of Sigal, Stela Dhami of Colliers International and Basri Rruka of Auto Star Albania were elected to the chamber’s Board of Directors.
Attending the meeting, U.S. Ambassador John Withers and Deputy Economy Minister Enno Bozdo said the work of the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania is leaving an impression on improving the business climate in Albania.
Former AmCham President Philip Bay said he wanted to serve for one mandate only and did not seek reelection. But he added that he was glad his two main initiatives in the past two years had been successful. These included strengthening the role of women within the organization and making it easier for foreign-educated young people to become integrated in the Albanian economy.
With some of Albania’s most powerful companies in its membership roster, the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania is a business organization that focuses on lobbying on behalf of its member businesses, promoting trade relations with the United States as well as working on improving the business climate and increasing foreign investment in Albania.
AmCham Albania is past of the worldwide network of American Chambers of Commerce. It is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
in Washington and a member of the Brussels-based European Council of American Chambers as well as Albania’s Business Consultative Council and Union of Chambers of Commerce.
