On the giant screen at the Cannes Film Festival last Monday, the film, “Lorna’s Silence,” was shown which stars the Albanian actress Arta Dobroshi. On the same day, James Gray’s production, “Two Lovers,” “Sꢮce homage a Manoel de Oliviera,” which is out of competition and “Sanguepazzo” a special projection by Marco Tullio Giordana starring Monica Bellucci were also screened. In the film, “Lorna’s silence,” the Albanian actress Dobroshi plays the role of a young Albanian woman who prepares a diabolical plan to win Belgian citizenship and to realize a dream she has always cherished – to own a snack-bar in Ličge. Her boyfriend mobster Fabio orchestrates a sham marriage with Claudy who is a drug addict (Jeremie Renier).
Lorna’s hopes that Claudy would not be around for much longer are dissipated when the desire to live and fight his addiction is strongly revived. Lorna has other plans however of marrying a Russian Mafioso after she is given citizenship also giving him the opportunity to solve his problems of emigration. But this second marriage is only possible if Fabio’s plan works out-to kill Claudy. In their last film too, the Dardenne brothers focused on a moral dilemma. This Albanian actress from Kosovo was discovered by film producer Kujtim Chashku following the success of his film, “The Magic Eye.”
