TIRANA, May 31 – Police have arrested seven people for who tried to illegally transport drugs to neighboring Greece last Sunday.

Following an investigation, police held an operation in southeastern city of Korça and Tirana codenamed “The Trip.”

The operation led to the finding of 23 kilograms of cannabis and the arrest of the seven suspects.

There were also daily announcements from police departments around the country that they have confiscated and destroyed marijuana plants on in the processed state.

But often, police said, there is no one to arrest. The suspects now usually plant the marijuana on hidden public land, trying to escape arrest.

Following the major police operations in southern Lazarat and northern Malesi e Madhe regions last year, Albania has lifted itself out of the black list of major producers of cannabis in the continent.
