TIRANA, April 19 – Construction of Albania’s 48-MW Ashta run-of-river hydropower project is on schedule for completion by 2012, developers reported.
Austrian utility Verbund and SPV Energji Ashta broke ground for construction of the Ashta hydropower project, located on Albania’s Drin River in Shkoder District, in 2009.

The project is to feature Hydromatrix technology, a trademarked product of Andritz Hydro, employing about 90 small turbine-generators installed in modules.
Spanish company Gamesa signed a contract with Andritz for the delivery of 90 permanent magnet generators for the hydropower project, wire services reported.
