TIRANA, August 12؁ustralian mining company JAB Resources announced that it has lodged a mining permit application to develop an open pit and underground chromite mine at Kalimash in north eastern Albania.
As per report, JAB plans to mine about 11 tonnes of chromite ore from the open pit and 2 to 5 tonnes of higher grade chromite ore from the underground operation over 20 Years.
The ore will be beneficiated to 40-47% Cr2O3. The chromite concentrate will have a high chromium to iron ratio that historically attracts prices well above the base South African chromite price. This estimate is based on the drilling of only two of 10 chromite targets. Continuing exploration is expected to substantially increase the resources available for mining.
In April 2009, JAB Resources completed a feasibility study into the development of the open pit and underground mining operations, and the construction of an ore beneficiation plant.
