TIRANA, Oct. 8 – Although there is no official confirmation from authorities, reports indicate they are preparing to received thousands of Middle Eastern refugees as some of the flow through Macedonia and Serbia could shift through Albania, Montenegro and onwards.

The Ministry of Interior has told local institutions in Gjirokastra and Korà§a, the two largest counties on the Greek border, to find open spaces so the government can set up thousands of tents, the online news portal Lapsi reported this week.

The two regions have seen a steady flow of small numbers of refugees coming from Greece in previous winter months, a time which the Albania passage is more appealing than the alternative routes.

At least one air force base outside Gjirokastra has been pinpointed as a potential site, according to the news portal, which also reports that the Ministry of Interior has already secured about 5,000 tents and personnel to run the camps, including doctors, nurses and cooks.
