Bad weather and grasshoppers ruin crops

Bad weather and grasshoppers have put villagers in the south of Albania, in the district of Gjirokast첬 under great economic distress. Over the last weeks, fields covering considerable land surfaces have been devastated by violent wind and storms, unusual for the season, reports Korrieri (7.07.2009). Vineyards in P쳭et, Tepelen묠and Gjirokast철have been damaged as well as fields of grain. Wind, rain and hail as well inconsistent temperatures have caused either complete or partial damage, resulting in the total loss of crops or to lower crop yield.
The region of Tepelen롨as also been touched by grasshopper swarms. 5 hectares are reported to have been damaged by them in Gjirokast첮 The communes of Krah롡nd Lop묠in Tepelen롳eem to be the most affected.
