TIRANA, Aug. 18 – Bad weather over the weekend led to power supply problems for many areas along the country’s Riviera during some of the peak days of the tourism season, leading to concerns about the image of an industry already under fire for lack of proper services this summer.
Power company officials said the weather was to blame for the blackouts.
The state-owned OSHEE power supply company said its staff was trying to fix the problems as soon as possible, with hundreds of buildings missing power on Tuesday.
OSHEE said the situation was back to normal for 90 percent of the area by Wednesday.
In a press release, OSHEE said bad weather had damaged 76 power centers and after an intensive 48 hours of work most of the coastline region was back to normal.
Officials said lighting strikes and high winds were to blame for the problems. The region has been hit by some short but strong summer thunderstorms in August.
