Banks’ deposit and loan portfolios follow opposite trend according to statistics

TIRANA, August 28ؔhe deposit portfolio of commercial banks operating in Albania stood at some 611.81 billion Lek (4.56 billion euro) at the end of June, 2.6% lower than a year earlier, Bank of Albania data indicated on Friday.
The banks’ end of June deposit portfolio was 0.4% lower than a month earlier.
The loan portfolio of commercial banks in Albania amounted to 418 billion Lek (3.18 billion euro) at the end of June, 20% up from a year earlier, BoA statistics indicated on Friday
On a monthly basis the banks’ June credit portfolio was 1.3% lower.
At the end of 2008 the banks’ credit portfolio totaled 396.3 billion Lek, 35% up on the year.
Albania’s 16 commercial banks serve a market of some 3.2 million people.
