TIRANA, Oct. 14 – Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha visited France to meet with his French counterpart, Bernard Kouchner, and other top French officials and personalities.
Albania’s integration efforts into NATO and the European Union and the Kosova issue were the main topics of talks during the visit.
Kouchner had been the first United Nations top administrator in Kosova after the NATO bombing in 1999.
Kouchner said that France would respect whatever verdict the Troika would give and urged Prishtina and Belgrade to try to reach a consensus. Basha said that the delay of the status process for Kosova would be dangerous and that the EU should begin preparations for taking over the monitoring of the area from the United Nations following Kosova’s independence.
Basha also took part in a conference on Albania’s role in promoting stability in the region held by the French Institute of International Relations. Earlier, Basha also met with UNESCO Director General Koनiro Matsuura.
