Tirana International Airport (TIA) held a ceremony on Wednesday, 12 October 2008, to celebrate the beginning of a direct route between Tirana and Zagreb. The new thrice
weekly service is provided by the low-cost carrier BelleAir and operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, departing from Tirana at 12:00 hours, arriving in Zagreb at 13:30,
returning at 14:30 and arriving at 16:00 hours.
“It is highly significant that this new air connection comes after the two countries were proposed for full membership of NATO in the spring summit of the Northern Atlantic alliance. It is pleasing to see that after having a common agenda, Croatia and Albania
now have a common and direct physical link with each other,” said TIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Andrea Gebbeken.
The Croation Ambassador to Albania, Mr. Darko Javorski, participated in the ceremony along with Albania’s civil aviation officials.
After completing some important infrastructure investments last year, TIA is now enlarging its passenger terminal, expanding the capacity of the Airport and at the same time
guaranteeing high standards of security, service and comfort for all its customers.
This new route, along with the recent start of operations at TIA by Sky Express Airlines, brings the number of foreign destinations reached by direct flight to 32, while the number
of airlines operating here is thirteen. Following a highly successful 2007, TIA expects further impressive growth this year.
BelleAir operates an ATR 42-300 aircraft on the new route to Zagreb with a capacity of 46 seats. This modern aircraft provides both comfort and safety. Flying time is about 1 hour
30 minutes.
