Berat Encyclopedia published

TIRANA, May 26 – After many years of work, the Jonalda Publishing House has published its encyclopedia about the Berat region. It was an initiative of importance to the whole Berat community and the wider region. Berat is a city with ancient traditions in education, culture, architecture and more. From the national point of view together with Skrapar and Ku谶a, Berat has great historical value.
The encyclopedia is something the region lacked. It has been prepared with special attention taking into consideration the best publications of that kind or similar to that, which have been compiled for other areas.
Before starting such a work (and following that) there was held the proper consultation with the specialized institutions, like the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Albania and that was also based on methodical and scientific counseling to make it a proper work of research.
Berati Enciklopedi (Berat Encyclopedia) is a synthetic work of an encyclopedia nature compiled from the intellectual work and contribution from many authors and during a long period of time since 2002.
Berati Enciklopedi aims at being an overall work covering the values and achievements of all the times and of everyone, without any prejudice. The work has more than 3,000 items with broad and full information on the Berat, Skrapar and Ku谶a areas. The work covers different events, phenomena, personalities, processes, problems, in different and important moments of history, from the ancient times until 2006.
The history of Berat, Skrapar and Ku谶a comes out at this work evoking the traditions and achievements, the contribution and importance of many personalities of great proportions starting from Muzaka, Skura, Qypryli, Vrioni, and so on. Berat, Skrapar and Ku谶a have brought great personalities who have honored the nation. They belong to this area that has historically inspired them with the moral and civic responsibility, with their strong character, virtues and commitment. Berati Enciklopedi is compiled as a scientific research in the form of a vocabulary respecting all the parameters, notions and scientific criteria for the phenomena, events, places and the people.
The goal of this work is to bring out the identity of the region with all its special features and originality transmitting that to the generations with the legal pride for the birthplace of our predecessors and also the desire that their followers had to learn and recognize their roots, the road of efforts in their birthplace, of the region they are from, despite the place where they currently live in. One may find in this work the contribution from Berat and the region since the ancient times until nowadays, the contribution of hundreds of persons in key moments, the heights and lows, at the local or national level, through preserving the proportions and organically linked, based on the analysis-synthesis principle.
As the first publication the Berati Enciklopedi has also its shortcomings which will get improved in the next publication.
The publisher urges the reader to kindly understand if they know of any person not included in this work due to the lack of data. It also pledges that it will be improved in the second publication.
