TIRANA, Oct. 17 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha received Britain’s support for Albania’s membership efforts to join NATO and the EU and also on the proposed solution for an independent Kosova, as proposed by the Ahtisaari plan. Berisha made a visit to Britain where he also spoke at Oxford University. Berisha mentioned Albania’s favorable geographical position and good nature. Berisha also spoke about the country’s post-communist development, its transition and integration efforts into the international institutions, i.e. NATO and the EU. The premier mentioned his executive’s efforts in the fight against organized crime and corruption, and efforts to make the country attractive to foreign investment. On Kosova, Berisha said that Tirana fully supported the Troika efforts to resolve the issues but also repeated that Ahtisaari’s package was the best solution offered thus far. “Further delay of the Kosova status solution would seriously threaten stability in the region,” he said.
