TIRANA, March 9 – A book tracing the historical change of the name of Albanians from the 2nd century when the “Albanoi” name of the Illyrian tribe first appeared in modern times has been promoted. The bilingual Albanian-English book written by researcher Bardhyl Demiraj was promoted last Tuesday in a ceremony at the Academy of Sciences in Tirana. The book scientifically explains how the name of Albanians changed through history from Alban to Arban, Arbene, Arberesh, and Arvanitas to nowadays Shqiptare (Albanians).
The book comes as a scientific monograph presenting historical, ethnological, linguistic and religious arguments certifying the change in linguistic form that the name of Albanians underwent through the centuries.
The book published by the “Naimi” publishing house was funded by the “Saadi Shirazi” cultural foundation in Tirana.
