TIRANA, May 11 – “Born in dictatorship” is the latest exhibition painter Stefan Taci has opened at the Kledio gallery in Tirana. The exhibition features artworks of different genres created during the painter’s 40 year-career from 1972 to 2011. A series of works including drawings, paintings, graphs, terracotta, and sculpture are displayed in the exhibit focusing on the painter’s relationship with heroes and pseudo-heroes. Acquaintances with national hero Skanderbeg, late dictator Enver Hoxha, the author of the first Albanian written document Gjon Buzuku and Mother Teresa are a central point in Taci’s exhibition.
Among the works displayed in the exhibition is also a painting of the dictator Hoxha and a little girl reciting a poem next to him, which Taci painted during his graduation thesis.
“Being born in dictatorship is not simply a time concept showing you were born in a specific period, but has to do with growing up in that system, being educated and how heroes and history is imposed upon you. As time passes by, you understand that many things were said differently from what they really were,” says the painter.
