British Foreign Secretary meets with Berisha in London

LONDON, Oct. 17 – The Foreign Secretary, David Milliband, on Wednesday met the Prime Minister of Albania, Sali Berisha, in London, according to the British embassy.
Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha is visiting the UK from 15 to 17 October 2007 to meet British Cabinet Ministers, including the Foreign Secretary, David Milliband.
Following the meeting the Foreign Secretary said: “Prime Minister Berisha and I had a good meeting today, focusing on bilateral co-operation between the UK and Albania. I was pleased to inform the Prime Minister that the UK has ratified Albania’s EU Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). This agreement sets out the terms for a closer relationship between the European Union and Albania. It will lead to free trade between Albania, its neighbours and the EU, and will increase co-operation in policing, judicial and economic affairs, helping Albania to further strengthen its action in these areas.
“The Agreement also requires close co-operation with appropriate partners to fight illegal migration and criminality. We hope this will benefit Albania, the UK and European neighbours by helping to stem the flow of drugs from Eastern Europe and reduce the scourges of human trafficking and smuggling. “We also discussed regional issues in the Western Balkans where Albania plays an important and constructive role. Internationally, the UK particularly appreciates Albania’s contribution to international operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq and Afghanistan.”
