FIER, Oct. 17 – Top policeman Hysni Burgaj said that his institution should be totally committed and focused on finding the persons who committed the murder against opposition Socialist lawmaker, Fatmir Xhindi.
Some days ago his brother also called on the government institutions to clarify the murder, which has still remained a mystery.
Burgaj asked police in the Fieri district to intensify their efforts.
Xhindi was killed just days before parliamentary elections last year.
Authorities say they are still hunting those behind the killing.
Xhindi was hit by six bullets fired Saturday from a Kalashnikov rifle into the courtyard of his home in Roskovec, Fieri district.
Police have offered a euro250,000 reward for information leading to the killers.
They have not said if they found any motive for killing.
Xhindi, a 49-year-old third-term lawmaker _ is the second legislator to be killed in Albania since the 1990 fall of the Balkan country’s communist regime. The 1998 killing of lawmaker Azem Hajdari _ of the Democrats, then in opposition _ led to days of public protests and people taking over government offices and the public television broadcaster.
