TIRANA, June 7؁lbanian businesses have asked for more efforts from Albanian and Kosovo politicians in the creation of single market between the two countries. Konfindustria has expressed its concerns for delays in the making of common policies between Albania and Kosovo for the creation of a Pan-Albanian Market, which would account for 7 million Albanians on both sides of the border. Such delays are harming the economic effectiveness of investments with high strategic value, such as the Durres-Morine-Prishtine Highway and investments in the energy network between the countries.
Therefore, Albanian businesses requested from policymakers to create as soon as possible a High Level Common Council, which will be responsible for drafting the necessary policies for the Pan-Albanian Market, which should also be open to other countries in the region, similar to the EU experience. Further delays are considered to be a lost opportunity, carrying heavy consequences on the sustainable development of economies in Albania and Kosovo. A single market would be the best opportunity to attract foreign strategic investments, industrial and economic consolidation and a general improvement to Albanians’ quality of life.
Using the elections momentum, Konfindustria asked policymakers from all sides to make it a priority in their electoral programs the creation of common policies for common financial and fiscal systems, a common labor market and so on to speed up the process. So far, according to Albanian business, real progress has been made only in the energy sector where the two countries have taken significant steps in harmonizing their respective energy systems with obvious benefits for both sides.
