In what marks a new practice for the health care system in Albania, health ministry has appointed a proper business manager to run the country’s largest hospital.
Mother Teresa University Hospital will be managed by Ilir Dashi, an experienced business manager with political ties to the junior coalition partner in the government.
Mr. Dashi is a well-known businessman in Albania and had previously managed the Albanian distributor of Orbit, the U.S. brand that dominates the market for some sweets and snacks in the country.
He is also involved in the Socialist Movement for Integration, the party that holds the health ministry seat.
Health Minister Petrit Vasili told the staff at Mr. Dashi’s presentation that the appointment would test new prospects in the financial management of the hospital.
“They include a new management model, which with his skills, Mr. Dashi will be able to lead properly,” Mr. Vasili said.
Mr. Dashi is a trained economist and also lectures in that field at the University of Tirana.
