TIRANA, Jan. 10 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the governing Democratic party and Edi Rama of the main opposition Socialist Party have been involved in the last days in a continuous, daily accusation of each other on corruption-secured money.
It started with the opposition accusing Berisha’s children on the way and the amount of income they have secured. An opposition lawmaker, Taulant Balla daily comes out to question how Berisha’s daughter Argita Malltezi and her husband have won hundreds of thousands of euros only from their teaching in private institutions. He continues to put in doubt the way Berisha’s son Shkelzen has had the money in his activities.
On the other side, the Democratic Party spokesman questions how Rama’s spouse Linda has secured some 100 million leks.
These are words that Albanians have heard every day. They see the opposition MP saying that Berisha’s children also profit from the alleged government partners that may try to make any investment in the country. They listen to big questions on Linda’s money and remain still unclear.
Both sides claim the money have been secured in very legal and open ways.
If that is the case, then why does the opposite site continue to insist? Why the proper law enforcement institutions proceed and make a formal check and put their voice in public (to be frank, there has been a reaction from the transparency authority once last month for Berisha’s kids money). And why both sides don’t take the cases they put in doubt to the proper authorities?
Or are they just playing their usual political game ahead of the June election?
There can hardly be any clear answer on that and everything now remains with the people to decide which one they should believe and then cast their ballot later this year.
Continuous accusation of the two top leaders against each other
