Dea Film Festival to take place in Saranda and Gjirokastra

The third edition of Dea International Film Festival Open Air will take place in Saranda and Gjirokastra from June 18-25. Over 2,300 films have applied to the festival- 185 feature films and 2120 short films from around 100 countries all over the world. Preliminary selection committees have decided to show to the public 7 feature films for the main competition, 6 films for the cross-border film section and 39 short films.

The films will be shown in Saranda at Limani Cinema and the city’s cinema-theatre as well as in Gjirokastra at Odeon Cinema and the new cinema of the city.

“The international film festival in Saranda is an activity which aims to make Saranda a center for the meeting of the cineastes, producers and mostly distributors of the film industry almost like Sarajevo and Thessaloniki. Thanks to its geographic position, climate, hospitality and its wonderful landscape, Saranda has all the possibilities for being an attraction for the foreign cineastes,” according to Dea Film Festival official website.

Summer Film Academy DEA, will focus this year on film education of children and youth. The summer academy will be divided into three different schedules by age groups (children, adolescents and young people). 15 films will be screened at the cinema-theatre of Saranda and at the new cinema in Gjirokastra. The Summer Film academy DEA will also feature  lectures by lecturers specialized in children’s film education, from Sweden and Germany.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the National Center of Cinematography, the Municipality of Saranda, and the municipality of Gjirokastra, the third edition of DEA International Film Festival will bring together film lovers from Albania and all over the world as well as increase the number of tourists visiting Albania, especially the cities of Gjirokastra and Saranda.

“Saranda is only a few kilometers from the Greek island of Corfu, and can be reached from the airport, and then in the ship in less than 30 minutes. The festival is conceived as the festival of the full fiction film. The activity will take place from 17 to 21 June of 2014. The Festival with be Open Air and the main competition will take place in the evening at the open cinema of the city. It will be constructed another open air environment in one of the hotels by the seaside. The daily competitions and the other activities will take place in the cinema hall and the other two halls,” according to Dea Film Festival.

All attendees will have the chance to meet and learn from artists, actors, producers, journalists, directors that come from all around the world.
