TIRANA, April 8 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has openly expressed his stance against U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, describing him as a threat both to America and U.S.-Albania relations.
The comments come ahead of his official visit to the Unites States this week.
“I have openly said what I think about Donald Trump and it’s no problem for me to repeat it that Donald Trump is a threat to the U.S. and he is undoubtedly also a threat to U.S.-Albanian relations which means May God not allow he is elected U.S. president, because he would be a president who would cause a lot of damage to the U.S. and of course would be a real threat to Albania-U.S. relations,” Rama told Kosovo’s Klan Kosova TV in an interview while in Kosovo where he participated at the inauguration ceremony of Hashim Thaà§i as Kosovo’s new president.
Billionaire Donald Trump, known for his controversial statements, is currently the front-runner candidate among Republicans and will likely face Democrat Hillary Clinton in the presidential race.
Rama’s statements on Trump were also covered by the Associated Press while the CNN earlier described Albania as a Muslim country that loves America “but when it comes to Trump, reaction is a mixture of disbelief, amusement and revulsion.”
The United States has been a strategic partner for Albania in the country’s road to independence and Euro-Atlantic integration.
