Bad IT infrastructure, poor internet connections and power cuts in rural areas make it hard for businesses to get some government services that are available only online.

TIRANA, Dec, 9 – The Albanian government, with the help of international allies, has increasingly been moving its business services online, aiming to make things easier and more transparent for everyone. But poor IT infrastructure and spotty internet access has caused of series of failures recently.
This week, companies wanting to use the Web site of the National Registration Center, a key window for Albanian businesses, could not do so, because the server was down, the media reported. And it wasn’t the fist time it has happened.
Another sore spot is the Public Procurement Agency Web site, which businesses say suffers from low server speeds. And since all public tenders are now electronic across the country, it costs Albanian companies dearly when they simply can’t use the site.
Even in the largest cities, Albanians still face spotty internet access, but the problem gets worse in rural areas, where companies are always dealing with power shortages and bad internet access.
