Early 2010 marks sharp increase in new business registrations

National Registration Center says business closures have declined and growth in new registrations shows a positive forecast for the economy

TIRANA, July 20 – A sharp increase of 48 percent in new business registration has been noted in the first six months of 2010, the National Registration Center reports. The increase is in comparison to the same period a year ago.
During the year’s first six-month period, there were 10,514 businesses registered at the center, and these were primarily commercial businesses – with the service sector leading, followed by production.
The trend of businesses closing has gone down 18 percent compared to a year ago.
Registration of businesses shows that the real situation in the Albanian economy is positive and growing, officials say.
In first half of 2009, a total of 7,089 new businesses were registered as new companies. In 2010, that figure was 10,514. There are about 133,000 businesses registered in Albania.
NRC data show an increase in the number of service businesses as well as those in the manufacturing sector of the economy.
