In the last days, the number of migrants, mostly from the Middle East countries but also from places such as Afghanistan, crossing illegally into Albania has increased significantly. It is obvious that they don’t want to stay in Albania but rather use it as a transit point to cross north or west into the European Union member states. Faced with rising fences and anti-immigrant policies in several entry points, immigrants will seek alternative routes and Albania is geographically positioned in a way to get their attention.
