TIRANA, March 10 – Albania’s growing need for energy could be addressed at the consumption end through better efficiency in the use of energy, not just through increased production, experts at a seminar on energy-efficient buildings said in Tirana this week.
The seminar was held by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy and German development bank KfW and aimed to look at how residential buildings and other facilities can better manage their energy consumption.
Deputy Economy Minister Leonard Beqiri said the ministry is preparing a law on energy efficiency, based on European Union practices.
“We are working closely with donors, including KfW, for the completion of this law in accordance with the development of the energy sector in the country,” Mr. Beqiri said.
He added energy efficiency is closely connected with the reduction of losses and energy consumption, which is a government commitment in the framework of international agreements to protect the climate through the Kyoto Agreement.
Mr. Beqiri said the government will support starting the implementation of these initiatives in public institutions as an example to be followed by others.
