TIRANA, June 30 – What seemed to be nothing more than talk to attract the interest of, at least, neighboring countries turned into a hot topic resulting in Albania being cautioned by European lawmakers. The warning came when Prime Minister Sali Berisha last week visited a number of European capitals and met with European lawmakers. One of them, Doris Pack, said Albania was lucky to have had enough rain to fill its dams at the hydropower stations but urged the country to still be careful and take care of its energy production and supply so that its does not create political or economic instability. Pack also said Albania should look for other alternative energy suppliers, asking for less time and funding. She said that a nuclear reactor to be used for energy would require much funding and called it a ‘small possibility’ to be built in Albania.
Berisha has recently been promoting Albania’s desire to build a nuclear reactor, attracting the interest of neighboring Italy and raising concerns from Greece. (Tirana Times Staff)
