Exports, passager trafic in Durres Port drop

TIRANA, March 25 – Exports and passenger traffic in Durres Port, the country’s biggest, registered a decline in the first two months of 2014, says the Durres Port Authority.
Exports from Durres Port, dropped by 5 percent to 220,789 tonnes in the first two months of 2014, while passenger traffic was down by 4.5 percent.
Meanwhile, imports from Durres Port rose by 17 percent during the first couple of months for 2014. The Durres Port says it handled an extra 6 percent in goods during the first two months of 2014.
The Durres Port saw a double-digit increase in exports in 2013, while imports and passenger traffic from the country’s biggest ports registered a considerable decrease. The Durres Port, Albania’s biggest, targets becoming a regional hub for landlocked Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia. It has representation offices in Kosovo and Macedonia.
Key operations in Durres port such as the container, and ferry terminals are managed by foreign companies under concession contracts.
