TIRANA, Dec. 13ؔhe Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Consumer Protection, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Water Administration, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Albania, jointly launched the FAO National Medium-Term Priority Framework (NMTPF) 2009 – 2011 in Albania.
The NMTPF is FAO`s new instrument and approach to country programming, in support of agriculture, rural areas and natural resources management. The NMTPF – as a programme document for FAO activities in Albania over the next three years – aims to facilitate country level work and enable a greater strategic focus, built around a set of medium-term national priorities agreed upon with Government and other national stakeholders. The document outlines FAO`s commitments and contributions as part of the organization`s work under the One UN Programme in Albania, part of the wider “Delivering as One” process of global UN reform.
FAO`s NMTPF is the result of a thorough process of consultations and joint work involving national and local stakeholders in agri-food, rural development and natural resource management as well as national Governmental bodies and local and international development partners.
The document signed presents details of planned or already on-going FAO activities in the country as well as a summary of the agency`s extensive experience in Albania. The NMTPF reflects the on-going process of FAO reform to ensure results and accountability at all levels. The document is based on Government`s strategic documents, such as the National Strategy for Development and Integration and the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU.
