TIRANA, April 5 – A teacher who feared he would be fired from his job set himself on fire in a suicide attempt in the southern city of Gjirokastra, Albanian media reported.
Laze Harshova, a 60-year old teacher at the Industrial School in Gjirokastra, tried to commit suicide setting himself on fire only a few minutes before the classes would start at the school.
The local media reported he had covered himself with petrol and put himself on fire inside the school, sparking panic and fear among the students and his colleagues.
There was an immediate reaction from his colleagues who managed to save his life, despite heavy injuries.
Later it was learnt that he was complaining to the school principal that they were cutting students in his class so he would be fired.
