TORANA, Jan. 17 – Finland is the latest donor to support the One UN Programme in Albania with a contribution of 300,000 Euro that will be used for the Coherence Fund, a non-earmarked, multi-year funding pool that enhances the efficiency of the United Nations in Albania by streamlining, simplifying and increasing the harmonization and predictability of resource flows.
The ONE UN Programme is funded from Albania itself and other countries based on a strategy supported from Tirana and also 14 participating agencies.
It supports national priorities in five areas: more transparent and accountable governance; greater inclusive participation in public policy and decision-making; increased and more equitable access to quality basic services; regional development to reduce disparities; and environmentally sustainable development.
Finland plans to invest 38 million Euro in development in the Western Balkans for the period 2009 – 2013, aiming at eradicating poverty and promoting economically, socially and ecologically sustainable development in compliance with the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
