First Israeli film festival kicks off

TIRANA, May 7 – Four of Israel’s most successful and awarded recent movies from its contemporary cinema will show in Tirana as part of the first edition of the Israeli Film Festival in Tirana.

The festival, organized by the Israeli embassy in Tirana and the Marubi film school, opened on Thursday, May 7, with the screening of “Footnote” by Joseph Cedar which won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Friday, May 8 will feature the “Aviva, my love” film by Shemi Zarhin, a winner of six Israeli Academy Awards.

“The Flood” a movie by Guy Nattiv which won a special mention at the Berlin Film Festival in 2011 is scheduled to screen on Saturday evening, May 9.

The festival will close on Sunday, May 10 with the screening of “The Band’s Visit” directed by Eran Kolirin. The film won the UNESCO award for outstanding contribution to the promotion and preservation of cultural diversity through film at the 2007 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
