TIRANA, Nov. 1 – The first International Exhibition for Defense and Regional Security, ALMEX 2010, was held in Albania on Oct. 28-30.
It covered the past, present and future of the Albanian Armed Forces giving access to all to visit. Ministry of Defense and the Minister of Interior, in cooperation with Klik Expo Group, organized the international exhibition, which aimed to introduce its objectives and prospects for the future.
All types of heavy vehicles, the elite of the Albanian Army until recently were deployed at the center of the capital, including airplanes, tanks, cannons, torpedoes, etc, brought by the Ministry of Defense, but also other military vehicles of the Ministry of Interior.
Defense Minister Arben Imami said that was a first step in changing the destination and the purpose of using them, as a part of the process of reformation and transformation of the Albanian Armed Forces.
“The environment of security and defense is constantly changing. The priorities of development of the Armed Forces are also in continuous processing, as the responses and counter-responses to new security challenges require human quality and renewed technology. Our Armed Forces, in the last 20 years have undertaken consolidating transformation processes. Specifically, NATO membership has now included the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces in essential processes in terms of standardization and interoperability,” he said.
Albania became a NATO member in April 2009, and its Armed Forces aim to increase military capabilities and restoration of military means and equipments.
The Albanian Armed Forces are becoming an integral part of the alliance, taking part in its peacekeeping missions, like that in Afghanistan.
Scores of international companies in the field of army and security took part.
ALMEX 2010 was the First Exhibition for Security and Defense, designed as a cultural event that promotes the Armed Forces of Albania, as part of its NATO allies.
