TIRANA, Dec. 1 – Challenges and prospects were the focus of discussions at the third Forum of Albanian-Greek Economic Relations held at the Tirana International Fair this week.
Organized by the Klik Expo Group and the Embassy of Greece, the event dealt with issues relating to the continuation of closer economic ties between the two countries.
Economy Minister Dritan Prifti and Greek Ambassador Nikolaos Pazios joined the senior management of Greek companies in Albania at the event as well as representatives of participating other businesses, institutions and other guest.
Greece is Albania’s second largest trading partner and its investment in Albania totals 1.2 billion euro. And Greece’s pavilion at the 16th edition of the annual International Fair organized by Klik Expo Group, was one of the largest in size.
“This meeting today, the Economic Forum, creates the basis for a better perspective of in economic and business ties between the two countries,” Ambassador Pazios said. “This is a sign of increased opportunities for recognition and at the same time creates new dimensions between us, between businesses and between the two countries.”
Minister Prifti spoke on the importance of Greek investments in Albania.
“Currently, Greek businesses represents 50 percent of foreign investment in Albania. Greek business operates in the most important sectors of the Albanian economy,” he said. “Despite the impact of the crisis, trade volume between Albania Greece has experienced major developments.”
Albania’s economy minister also spoke about the government’s intention to keep lowering taxes and improving the business climate in general.
“Next year, the government has planned to remove VAT on health and education services,” he said “Services that improve the business climate will be established next year through a one-top-shop center for obtaining licenses for investment in energy and mining.”
