TIRANA, July 13 – Four Albanian movie premieres will be screened next autumn in Tirana, the National Cinematography Centre, which recently became a member of the European Film Promotion said in a statement.
The movie premieres include “Albanian” a German-Albanian co-production directed by Johanes Naber, telling the story of an Albanian immigrant in Germany.
Albanian actor Nik Xhelilaj starring in the movie won the best actor prize for his new starring role in the “Albanian” movie in the 32nd edition of the Moscow International Film Festival.
Other movie premieres are “Pharmacon” directed by Joni Shanaj, “Out of Touch” by Andi Deliana and “Maya” by Pluton Vasi.
The Albanian National Centre for Cinematography (ANCC) also said it has approved projects to finance the 5 short films, 4 documentaries, and three feature films.
Founded in 1997, the ANCC supports the development, production and distribution of films which have a potential to achieve international recognition, thereby enhancing the cultural identity of the local film productions and improving the economic viability of its cinematography. Since 1997, around 167 different projects – 37 feature-length films, 20 short feature films, 63 documentaries, 39 animated films, and eight film festivals – have been backed by ANCC. The main mandate remains the development of new cinema of artistic value.
At this year’s Cannes International Film Festival, the ANCC had arranged a presence in a joint pavilion at the March顤u Film for the first time, collaborating with other film institutions from South Eastern Europe. Similar activities are being developed for the next Berlinale.
