TRIANA, Jan. 17 – According to Freedom in the World 2013, Freedom House’s annual report on the state of global freedom, Albania falls in the partly free category, countries in which there is limited respect for political rights and civil liberties.
Partly free states frequently suffer from an environment of corruption, weak rule of law, ethnic and religious strife, and a political landscape in which a single party enjoys dominance despite a certain degree of pluralism.
Kosovo, Bosnia Herzegovina and Macedonia were at the same group with Albania among 58 countries, while Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia and were at the ‘free’ group with 90 countries. The ratings reflect global events from January 1, 2012, through December 31, 2012.
Albania was at the same level last year too.
Electoral process, political pluralism and participation, government functioning, freedom of expression and belief, associational and organizational rights, rule of law, personal autonomy and individual rights were the main issues checked from the report of the Freedom House, founded in 1941 as a vigorous proponent of the right of all individuals to be free.
